If you live in the US and over 18, chances are you have been issued a social security number (SSN). The SSN under the Social Security Act under Section 205(c) is issued to citizens, permanent residents as well as working residents for taxation purposes, pretty much everybody. This makes it easy to do a valid SSN search using a SSN Validator service. With a valid SSN you will be able to find someone by SSN very quickly using a people search by SSN service.
However, a valid SSN search presumes there is a valid SSN involved. The SSN is comprised of 9 numbers grouped into the first three (state zip code), the second two (group number) and the last four (serial numbers). Some claim the group number represents racial or ethnic information, which could be a clue for a valid SSN search but the Social Security Administration denies this.

Glaring errors
At first glance, the possibility of a valid SSN search can be determined if you consider four things a valid SSN cannot have:
1. All zeros in any of the three sections, in any combination. The lowest possible number combination is 001-01-0001, which was awarded in 1936 to Glenda Owen of New Hampshire.
2. Numbers beginning with 666 (guess why)
3. Number series from 987-65-4320 to 987-65-4329, which is reserved for advertising purposes
4. Numbers beginning with a number higher than 772, as this is the highest area code assigned by the SSA to date
These are handy things to know when you need a valid SSN search done. It can probably save you a few dollars if the SSN in question fit in any one of these categories, eliminating the need to pay for a valid SSN search. However, with millions of numbers to choose from, it would just be pure bad luck if a would-be fraudster who did not do their homework would pick a number that would be an obvious invalid SSN even to the general public. They could have made a valid SSN search in choosing their number, in fact.
Reasons for an invalid SSN
But luck is usually on the side of the invalid SSN-doer. A valid SSN search would normally be necessary to determine if the SSN truly belongs to a specific person. Even the presentation of what seems to be a valid SSN card is not enough because with today’s technology, it is so easy to produce a fake SS card. Fake ID companies even boast of this ability!
Even with the best possible motives, there is always the possibility that the SSN you are using is not valid for several reasons, chief of which are errors on the side of the SSA. A valid SSN search could reveal you could have been mistakenly flagged as deceased, in which case you could not possibly be eligible for employment or health benefits! You could have been issued a card that has printing errors.
You could also be one of the 40,000 schmucks who have been using the Woolworth SSN, which was discontinued in 1943. At any rate, a valid SSN search with reputable search companies such as LocatePeople.org will put to rest any question of the eligibility of an SSN once and for all.
